Because it really does work and here is another example proving it once again. In this scenario I pitted a web video against the well optimized websites that command Googles attention for the search phrase “vacation rental copper harbor mi”. The funny thing is that those websites that dominate first couple of pages really don’t have many vacation rental properties to offer in Copper Harbor, Michigan, but they have the resources and the traffic to get Googles attention and therefore rank on the first page of the search results.
The challenge was to improve the visibility of a website, CopperHarborCabins.com, so that it would show up on the first page of Google. After numerous attempts at improving the SEO on the site for the search terms that we saw it was getting out ranked for the best we could do was no higher than page 4. Sure we could have done more work with backlinks and the usual tedious, time consuming tasks that go into improving website SEO, but we wanted to see if there was another, more efficient way.
The solution was to create a web video and optimize it for the same search terms. We uploaded the video to both YouTube and Vimeo and then waited. About a week later we noticed that the videos were ranking higher than the website which was promising. And about a month later guess what? One of the videos got to page 1! And the surprising thing was that both the YouTube and the Vimeo video both were about ranking about the same which proved that YouTube is not the way to make this work.

So what did we learn here? That web video can out rank highly optimized websites for a specific search phrase and can do so in a short period of time. What does that mean for your business?
